The Question:I am trying the Get Lean Program, but don't see anything about cardiovascular workouts. Should I do those on my off weight days? How long does this program take? I've read you are overtraining if you go beyond 45 minutes of weight lifting per workout. The Answer:
Yes, you should be doing cardio on your non-lifting days. About 3-4 times per week for about 45 minutes. Try to do the cardio on the days when you are not lifting if you can. To gage your cardio intensity, subtract your age from 220, then find 65% of that number. This will be your target heart rate for your cardiovascular exercise. For more information on cardio work and heart rate, just type in Heart Rate in the search area on the front of our web page!
Right now all of the programs are 12 weeks in duration.
Overtraining in not as simple as how long your work out is. It is intensity, duration, and frequency and what you eat or do when you're not training. For example: if you only sleep 4 hours a night and eat pop tarts for breakfast every morning you will not be at your most efficient recovery levels :)
Fitrex programs are scientifically designed to avoid overtraining and maximize progress. Some workouts are less than 45 minutes and some are longer. It's the balance of the workouts and how they are put together week after week that makes them effective!
