The Question:

I just had a baby and I am anxious to get my shape back. I use wieghts and have just receieved a workout off of your site but my question is this: I run anywhere from 15 to 20 miles a week ( I thought this was the most efficient way to lose weight) - if I continue to run while doing your weight workout will it slow down the process of "Getting Lean"?

Also can I run (or some form of aerobic excersise) everyday I do your workout?

The Answer:

Weight or resistance training will speed up the process of losing fat. And, if you do resistance training you will not run into those plateaus in weight loss because the strength training will keep your metabolism running at a high level.

Muscle is the most important fat burner in your body. It is your only true fat burning engine. If all you do is run and eat less you will slowly lose your muscle tissue and your metabolism will slow down and finally you won't be able to eat more than two pieces of toast and an apple without gaining weight! Seriously though, I thought everybody knew that weight training was great for losing fat or "Getting Lean".

Running is great for burning calories but when you stop running, you stop burning calories! If you lift weights your body continues to burn calories for up to 10 hours after the training session. Make sure that you include weight training in your weekly exercise program. And, yes, you can do some form of aerobic exercise on the days that you do my workouts. Congratulations on your baby!
